You may have heard that my name was announced as one of the finalists for the Social Media Marketing Awards for 2019 under the category Best Use of LinkedIn.
The campaign I was nominated for was LinkedIn Heroes – Entrepreneurs Making an Impact which I started a year before the award nomination and throughout the campaign spent a grand total of $0 on advertising.
I went to Sydney for the gala dinner and invited my Mum to enjoy the evening with me. There were 5 finalists in the LinkedIn category some of which were much larger media agencies that would’ve spent 100’s of thousands of dollars on the campaign they submitted.
Well guess what? I won 🙂
I was smiling from ear-to-ear all night. It is fantastic to be acknowledged by the industry after the hard work myself and the team have put in.
We are committed to delivering the best possible outcomes for our clients and the thing is, everybody says that kind of stuff. The award helps us communicate to our clients that we are the real deal and not just talking rubbish to get sales.
I’ve been asked to be involved in award programs before but felt that they lacked credibility. Unfortunately a lot of brands or individuals with their own agenda will create an “award” or a “best of” list and suck a lot of social media business owners in, who are unfortunately desperate for sales.
I knew that the Social Media Marketing Institute was behind this event and Miriele Ryan has been involved in the social media education industry for a number of years, and interviewed me on several occasions.
When I saw the list of judges and the strict criteria they use to select nominations I could see that this was not like any of the crap I’d seen before.
While other competitions are often based on opinions, or votes or vanity metrics, the Social Media Marketing Awards looked at tangible business outcomes, strategy and results.
I felt I was in a strong position to make the finals in the LinkedIn category and was thrilled when I saw the announcement and my name was included.
To win on the evening and I shared a video on my Instagram which shows me, for the first time-ever, at a loss for words. I know, right!
I’d like to thank all the guests that contributed to LinkedIn Heroes, my team especially George, Andrew, Jason, Race Party, Spacecubed and finally everybody who took the time to watch an episode, drop us a comment, share an episode, even click the like button.
Not everyone who enjoys the content engages with it, infact only the minority do, so trust me when I saw I know exactly who all of you are. I appreciate it more than you can imagine.
